Keene, Ella O. Teacher of the Future Scholarship

Freda Spiro ‘57, to demonstrate her appreciation to Keene State College for an exceptional education and to recognize the hurdles facing taday’s students, established the Ella O. Keene Teacher of the Future Scholarship. Ella Keene was a disciplined and highly respected geography professor who taught at Keene Teachers College from 1943-1967 and who always did everything she could to help her students succeed. She was a visionary who was never stalled by the barriers facing women at that time and this fund shall serve to honor and memorialize a professor who had a tremendous impact on her students. Consideration for this award shall be based on need and given to outstanding, full-time matriculated students who are: Rising, new or transferring juniors or seniors enrolled in Keene State College’s Teacher Education program; who have a declared major in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and/or Special Education; who are residents of New Hampshire; and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
